NFL coach announces quarterback change for Week 4

Injuries have ravaged the NFL over the first three weeks of the regular season, with many teams having to rely on their practice squads and depth earlier than expected.

Possibly the most glaring example of this is the Miami Dolphins, who are without starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa indefinitely after he suffered another concussion in Week 2.

Tagovailoa’s backup, Skylar Thompson, exited last week’s game against the Seattle Seahawks with a rib injury and was limited in practice for most of this week.

Now Thompson will not be on Miami’s active 53-man roster for tomorrow’s game against the Tennessee Titans.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel revealed that Tyler ‘Snoop’ Huntley will be the team’s starting quarterback, with Tim Boyle serving as his backup.

Huntley spent most of his professional career as the backup to Lamar Jackson on the Baltimore Ravens in his first stint with the team from 2020-2023.

After Jackson missed the end of the 2022 season with a knee injury, Huntley filled in as the team’s full-time starter, eventually earning a Pro Bowl selection.

After stints earlier this season with the Browns and Ravens again, Miami picked up Huntley due to their quarterback troubles.

Now, Huntley will get another opportunity to shine with plenty of talented players around him such as Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

The Titans are winless so far this season, giving Huntley an easier opponent for his first game running McDaniels’ offense.

Tagovailoa cannot be activated from injured reserve for a few more weeks at the earliest, giving Huntley a nice sample size to show what he’s got.
