Patrick Mahomes donated $5million to his alma mater, Texas Tech, on Thursday for the renovation of the south end zone of Jones AT&T Stadium and the Dustin R. Womble Football Center.
Mahomes’ donation will go towards the $242m project that began while he played for the Red Raiders.
The Chiefs star played in the Lubbock, Texas, school from 2014-2016 before declaring for the NFL Draft a year early. Mahomes was selected by Kansas City with the 10th pick in 2017.
Since then Mahomes has won two league MVPs and led the Chiefs to three Super Bowls, including the last two.
‘There isn’t a greater ambassador for Texas Tech athletics than Patrick Mahomes,’ Red Raiders coach Joey McGuire said. ‘He is arguably the best brand in sports, not only for his success on the field but for what he and his family do off it.’

Furthermore, the school said it would name the walkthrough area of the football center, the quarterback meeting room, and the office of the offensive coordinator after Mahomes.
Texas Tech agreed to a 10-year partnership with Adidas in July to become its official apparel provider. As part of the deal, the three stripes released Texas Tech and Mahomes co-branded apparel, featuring the quarterback’s ‘gladiator logo’.
Mahomes’ logo, alongside the Adidas symbol, is now painted on the turf at the stadium after the NCAA changed its rules to allow corporate logos on the field.
‘When we first launched this campaign, Patrick was only a freshman, and now it is fitting that we approach the end of the campaign with a gift of his own,’ Red Raiders athletic director Kirby Hocutt said.

Mahomes frequently attends Texas Tech games, having returned during the CHiefs’ bye week in the past three seasons. In 2022, he was inducted into the school’s Ring of Honor and Hall of Fame during his visit.
Mahomes also appears at baseball and basketball events, including the Big 12 Tournament, held near Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
