Saints’ Success Leads to Decrease in Murder Rate

New Orleans Saints fans are jokingly crediting the team for a recent drop in the city’s murder rates.

On Thursday, WDSU reported that the Crescent City has gone 18 days without a murder -the longest they have since tracking the statistic in 2019.

Aligning with the drop is the Saints’ 2-0 start to the NFL season. Two weeks in, the black and gold have tallied wins over the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys. As a result, fans believe the team is living up to its name by bringing peace to the city with their wins.

‘Derek Carr dropping the murder rate,’ a fan wrote with two praying emojis and a photo of the quarterback holding the Bible.

‘People may find this crazy,’ said a second. ‘But I can tell you as a New Orleanian, this is directly related to the Saints winning. Crazy, but true.’

‘Factsssss,’ a third responded to the earlier tweet. ‘When the saints play well, there’s a different vibe going on in the city. People are friendlier and happier. Walk with their chest held high. Gives the city hope.’

Another fan pointed to the team’s offensive coordinator, saying: ‘Klint Kubiak healing the city.’

‘Fun fact. During our 2009 Super Bowl season, they showed a crime stat for New Orleans while the Saints were playing,’ a fifth added. ‘Crime was reduced by something like 98 percent. So even criminals were like, ‘let’s rob them later, the Saints are playing right now.”

‘I remember reading about a study with sports teams and cities and how things went when the team was losing and winning,’ claimed a sixth user. ‘Not crazy at all. Saints literally cure the city when they win.’

The Saints hope to extend their streak when they face the 1-1 Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, September 22.
