Those hoping for a new day in New York City for the Giants in switching from Daniel Jones to Tommy DeVito as a starting quarterback have been greatly disappointed by the teamâs performance against Tampa Bay.
The Giants have been shut out by the Buccaneers thus far in Sundayâs game, with a 23-0 score line at halftime between the teams.Â
DeVitoâs performance, and the overall state of affairs for the Giants, can best be described by two first-half plays.Â
On one third down play, New Yorkâs offensive line crumbled and left DeVito exposed for a huge sack from Tampa Bayâs Calijah Kancey.Â
In the second quarter, the opposing quarterback, Baker Mayfield, ran for a touchdown, with him mocking Tommy DeVito with a celebration.Â
Mayfield pumped his arms in the air, similar to how Italian Americans have been generalized to talk at times.Â

âTommy Cutletsâ has been beloved for his Italian-American heritage, hence his nickname.Â
To start the second half, DeVito actually led a promising drive, for it only to stall within five yards of the end zone thanks to a Tyrone Tracy fumble.Â
DeVito is starting his first game of the season after Jones was benched and then released by the Giants earlier this week.Â
DeVito was picked to start this week despite being the third-string quarterback all season long.Â
Drew Lock, who backed up Jones every week, and served as the backup to DeVito starting against the Buccaneers, signed a one-year, $5million contract this season.Â
All of that money is guaranteed for the former Missouri quarterback, only compounding the Giants problems.Â
