Saquon Barkley mocked after critical error in Eagles-Falcons game

NFL fans – especially Giants fans – mocked Saquon Barkley on Monday night after the Eagles running back made a costly error in his team’s loss to the Falcons.

The Eagles held an 18-15 lead with 1:46 remaining when they faced a critical 3rd and 3, as the Falcons had no timeouts left and one more conversion would have allowed Philly to kneel out the clock.

Barkley looked set to move the chains on an easy pass from quarterback Jalen Hurts, but dropped the ball – stopping the clock and leaving the door open for Atlanta to ultimately pull off a stunning 22-21 win after Philly had to settle for a field goal.

The former Giants star, who was playing his first game at Lincoln Financial Field since signing with his new team in the offseason, was widely trolled on X after the game.

‘Saquon Barkley losing games for the Eagles puts a smile on my face,’ one wrote.

‘That Saquon drop was the highlight of the Giants’ season,’ radio host Chris Carlin cracked.

‘Saquon Barkley costing his team games in Philadelphia. A familiar feeling,’ another fan said.

And a different fan shared a video of a dog relieving itself on the floor, along with the caption, ‘Saquon Barkley when the Eagles needed him most’

Barkley had never won a game in Philadelphia in his six seasons with the Giants.

Aditionally, ESPN reporter Jordan Raanan pointed out that Barkley has 16 drops since the beginning of the 2021 season – the most among all NFL running backs.

After the game, Barkley took fault for the Eagles’ collapse.

“I dropped the ball. I let my team down today,’ he said.

‘The defense should not have been put in that position. It sucks.’

Following Barkley’s drop and a chip shot field goal from Jake Elliott, the Falcons marched 70 yards down the field in just 1:05 with Kirk Cousins finding Drake London for the game-tying score.

The wide receiver forced Younghoe Koo to take a 48-yard extra point after he earned an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for his celebration, but the kicker kept his nerve and Jalen Hurts threw an interception on the next drive to end the game.

Barkley and the Eagles will look to get back on track at the Saints next week.
