Schefter a candidate to replace Wojnarowski at ESPN

ESPN’s next NBA insider might already be under a lucrative contract with the company, as its top NFL news-breaker, Adam Schefter has surfaced as a ‘candidate’ to replace Adrian Wojnarowski.

Wojnarowski retired from journalism last month to take a position at his alma mater, St. Bonaventure. Now ESPN is left with a vacancy for its lead breaking-news reporter on its NBA beat.

Schefter holds that role with the network’s NFL staff, and has since 2009.

The challenge to become the ‘ultimate insider’, with a huge stake in the two most popular sports leagues in America may be too much for Schefter to pass up, per Front Office Sports.

Schefter has already dipped his toes into the NBA waters at ESPN with sporadic appearances on the network’s basketball broadcasts.

Covering the NFL and NBA at the pace Schefter would be forced to if he added Wojnarowski’s former role to his portfolio would be a near-impossible task.

Schefter received a contract extension from ESPN in 2022 and makes $9million per year with his current job, per the New York Post.

Adding the NBA’s news-breaking responsibilities to his role would likely also come with a massive raise. Wojnarowski made $7million annually at ESPN.

ESPN’s NBA team does have other notable reporters already on staff such as Brian Windhorst and Ramona Shelburne.

The network has also considered adding MLB reporter Jeff Passan into Wojnarowski’s old spot.

Outside the confines of the network, ESPN could bring in Wojnarowski’s biggest breaking-news rival, Shams Charania, who will be a free agent himself soon.
