Travis Kelce talks about White House visit with Chiefs

Travis Kelce has admitted he could ‘feel the tasers aimed at him’ when he stepped up to the podium at the White House last week after being warned not to by Secret Service agents.

Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs celebrated their back-to-back Super Bowl titles at the White House on Friday afternoon – with the entire team in attendance for the event.

President Joe Biden made remarks on the White House’s South Lawn about the team’s success and the tragedy of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade that ended with the death of one woman and injuries to 22 others.

After he gave his speech, the President joked: ‘I’d have Travis come up here but God only knows what he’d say,’ before inviting Kelce up to the mic

‘My fellow Americans, it’s nice to see you all again,’ Kelce joked briefly – a flashback to the year prior when he tried taking the mic at the event.

Kelce then joked ‘I’m not gonna lie President Biden, they told me if I came up here I’d get tased so I’m gonna go back to my spot’, before shaking Biden’s hand.

Taylor Swift’s boyfriend discussed the day on this week’s episode of New Heights and admitted he could feel the tasers on him as he stepped up to the podium.

He said: ‘When I walked in we had about four of five Secret Service members come over and say “if you go up to that podium then we’re authorized to tase you. It’s an order. It’s going to happen if you touch that f***ing podium, son.

‘That’s all that was going through my head. I had no idea President Biden was going to ask me to come up and let me have my moment. I had no idea.

‘He walks right up and the first thing he said was to give me the floor and I felt tasers aimed at me when I was up there the whole time. That’s why when I was up there I was like “don’t make any quick movements. Be cool.”

‘If I did something real quick or real fast I’m about to get f***ing tased. “They warned me. F***, Joe. You bear trapped me you mother…” that was the first thing to came to my head.’

Jason then interjected, adding: ‘That would be funny. If President Biden is inviting people up and then he’s like “hey, why don’t you put your hand in your pocket? he’s got a gun! go, go go”. He just loves seeing people get tased.

‘I thought it was awesome and it was cool and obviously unreal that the President invited you up to talk and then you just nailed it.

‘One, with your “my fellow Americans” at the White House. I mean… so cool. I’m so jealous. That’s so unreal. You nailed it.’

After that, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt gave a speech. Once that ended, Biden was handed a Chiefs helmet that he successfully put on his head.

It’s long-standing tradition for championship sports teams, both professional and collegiate, to be invited to the White House.

The Chiefs have won the Super Bowl three times in the past five years. In 2023, they defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, first lady Jill Biden’s favorite football team. She grew up near Philadelphia and attended the game.

Kansas City also defeated San Francisco to claim the 2020 Super Bowl title.

Kelce also revealed he would have no problem returning to the White House with his Chiefs teammates if Donald Trump is re-elected as US President.

Should they pull off a historic ‘three-peat’ and win the NFL’s biggest prize again next season, it is unclear who will be in position to invite them back to the Presidential residence – with Biden and Trump set to battle it out in the US election later this year.

A potential meeting with Trump could prove awkward for Kelce given his girlfriend Taylor Swift has previously been critical of the American politician, whom she accused of ‘stoking the fire of white supremacy and racism’ back in 2020.

Travis explained: ‘It’s always an honor to go to the White House.

‘I mentioned it last time any time I get a chance to be recognized by the President of the United States and get to go with my teammates and a group of men and women who I had success with to the point we get acknowledged I’m doing it every time no matter who’s up there at the helm. No matter what’s going on in this world.

‘It’s just such a cool opportunity. I think representing the Chiefs up there I wanted to do that for the Hunt family and all our coaches.

‘I wanted to make sure I remembered that and got all those pictures and memories in the bank with them.’
