Was Donald Trump booed at the Super Bowl? Fans left divided amid wild Fox conspiracy theory

Was Donald Trump really booed on Sunday night at Super Bowl LIX or is the President being targeted with a false conspiracy theory?

Fox’s broadcast of the Philadelphia Eagles’ win over the Kansas City Chiefs included a shot of Donald Trump saluting the crowd during the playing of the national anthem – the same image that was shown to the crowd on the Superdome jumbotron.

Those watching at home heard a swell of cheers for Trump as he appeared to the Super Bowl crowd. Later, Fox’s cable news channel reported the President received a ‘raucous reception.’

But not everyone was convinced.

Attendees, including DailyMail.com’s own reporters, heard a mixed response from the crowd, many of whom actually booed Trump. Some videos recorded inside the Superdome seem to capture the sound of booing directed at Trump, and some fans have argued the crowd response has been misreported in the media. 

Several fans suggested Fox used an ‘applause track’ to ingratiate itself to the President and Fox News’ conservative audience. DailyMail.com has reached out to Fox Sports spokespeople for some clarity on the issue.

Naturally, the discourse online featured little in the way of solid answers.

Conservative Riley Gaines wrote on X that the ‘cheers when Trump was on air during the national anthem were insane.’

Meanwhile, Chicago-based artist and POTUS critic Art Candee claimed ‘Bone Spurs Donald Trump’ was booed by ‘so many people.’

Lindy Li, a Trump-supporting former Democrat, insisted the President got a ‘standing ovation’ – a claim that should be viewed with some suspicion given that most were already on their feet for the anthem.

Trump, meanwhile, reminded everyone on social media that Taylor Swift, his critic and Travis Kelce’s girlfriend, was most definitely booed.

‘The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift,’ Trump wrote on X. ‘She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!’

Various social media clips from inside the Superdome aren’t likely to clear up the debate.

While some seem to prove Trump was applauded, others have the distinct sound of boos. And since the origins of these clips aren’t always discernible, it’s difficult to tell if they’re genuine or not.

Trump was in attendance on Sunday as a guest of New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson, who has been scandalized by a years-long investigation into the team’s alleged role in defending the local Archdiocese against child sex-abuse claims.

As reported by The Associated Press, internal emails show Benson, a devout Catholic, offering up the team’s senior vice president of communications to the local Archdiocese to help navigate the scandal in 2018.

Trump ultimately left the game a bit early to return.

Critics on social media became upset over Trump’s attendance at the Super Bowl, which some estimates claim cost the government up to $20 million.

‘Taxpayers paid over $20 million for Felon Donald Trump to attend half the Super Bowl. He reportedly left before Halftime. Where is DOGE at?’ a liberal podcaster posted to X.

A group called ‘Republicans against Trump’ wrote: ‘Trump is the first president to attend a Super Bowl game, a trip that will cost taxpayers millions of dollars—some estimates suggest as much as $15 million. What happened to ‘government efficiency’?’
