Whitlock on Brady’s NFL Domination

Jason Whitlock weighed in on Tom Brady slamming the current state of the NFL.

Speaking to Stephen A. Smith at the Fanatics Fest in New York City, Brady blatantly called the league out for tragically forcing rookies to start in the league. Brady also claimed the situation was a result of dumbing the game down.

On Wednesday, Whitlock reviewed the clip on his show ‘Fearless’ and praised Brady for his remarks.

‘It’s a terrific point he’s making,’ Whitlock said. ‘This game is so dumb, so simplified – anybody can play the quarterback position. They’re throwing guys out there because the game is so easy and because they have so much money tied up in them.

‘Just throw them out there and let’s see if they can sink or swim. Nothing’s getting developed.’

The NFL was not the only one who got jabbed by Brady – who also slammed college football and the development process in the present day. He then spoke about how he had to work his way up the depth chart in college and in the NFL.

‘At Michigan, for me, that was a pro-style program,’ the seven-time Super Bowl champion said. ‘For five years, I got to learn how to drop back pass, to read defenses, to read coverages, to be coached.

‘I had to learn from being seventh quarterback on the depth chart, to moving up to third, to ultimately being a starter. I had to learn all those things in college, that was development.’

After noting how he was developed by Bill Belichick’s coaching staff in New England, Brady blasted how the NFL fast tracks quarterbacks, saying: ‘I think it’s just a tragedy that we’re forcing these rookies to play early.’

‘But the reality is the only reason why they are is because we dumbed the game down, which has allowed them to play. It used to be thought of at a higher level, we used to spend hours and hours in the offseason trying to be a little bit better the next year.

‘But I think what happens is it discourages from going to deep levels because they realize the players don’t have the opportunity to go to a deep level. So they’re just going to teach them where they’re at.’

Given the magnitude of Brady’s comments, Whitlock was awed by his courage to say what he said.

‘This would be fascinating if Tom Brady is allowed to continue to talk about the NFL game in this fashion,’ Whitlock said. ‘The NFL wants you to believe that what you’re seeing now is 100 times greater than anything you saw before.’

‘Young people now believe that whatever it is they’re doing is a thousand times better than anything that was done in the past,’ he continued. ‘This mentality has infected and corroded all of America.

‘People now [say]: ‘The founding fathers, oh my god, they were terrible people. They were slave owners, they were racists, they couldn’t be smart. You know how much smarter we are than the founding fathers?”

‘I reject all of that,’ he closed.
