Tavia Hunt, the wife of Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, has sent a heartfelt message to the family of Patrick Mahomes following the death of the quarterback’s grandfather.

The Mahomes family is in mourning after Patrick’s mother Randi announced her father’s passing on Friday. Randy was 78.

It was revealed last month that Mahomes’ grandfather had been moved into hospice care – just over 48 hours before the quarterback secured his place in a third straight Super Bowl.

Then, five days after Kansas City’s crushing defeat against the Philadelphia Eagles, Patrick’s mom announced that Randy had passed away.

The news prompted an outpouring of grief and tributes from the Chiefs community, with Hunt posting a message on social media.

‘I’m so sorry for your loss,’ she wrote. ‘My heart goes out to you during this difficult time.

‘I pray that you feel God’s comforting presence, and that He will bring you peace and strength in the days ahead. May His love surround you, and may you find comfort in the cherished memories you hold close.’

Tavia and Clark Hunt have been married since 1993 and their family has helped bring a period of dominance to Kansas City.

Mahomes has spent his entire career with the franchise, since being picked by the Chiefs in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft.

He was, however, unable to inspire Kansas City to a historic three-peat in New Orleans and now the quarterback has been hit by tragedy.

‘Hard to find the words of holding my fathers hand as he goes to Heaven,’ Randi Mahomes wrote alongside a series of photos of her father.

‘I know he’s in a better place. I love you daddy. Well done, good and faithful servant’.

Randi had repeatedly spoken about her father and his ill health, but precise details about his condition remained hidden. Randy turned 78 on January 6.

Mahomes’ mom took to Instagram over the holidays and asked for prayers for her father, having previously shared a picture of herself watching Patrick and the Chiefs play from her dad’s hospital bed back in September.

‘Prayer warriors please pray for my daddy,’ she wrote on September 13 as Kansas City played the Los Angeles Chargers. ‘He is in the hospital and is not well.’

Despite her father being moved into hospice care, Randi was still in attendance at both the Super Bowl in New Orleans and last month’s AFC Championship game in Kansas City.

After last month’s win over the Buffalo Bills, the quarterback was quick to come together with his family on the field at Arrowhead Stadium.

In an emotional family moment, he posed with mom Randi, wife Brittany – just days after she gave birth to their third child – dad Patrick Snr, brother Jackson and half-sister Mia.
