Liverpool’s busy transfer window has continued with a deal that paves the way for Arne Slot’s side to snap up Alexander Isak from Newcastle.

Having spent over €300 million on signings this summer, the Anfield club have worked to balance the books by offloading Luis Diaz, and now they have confirmed another enormous deal.

Darwin Nunez has departed Anfield to sign for Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, with the Reds reportedly earning €74m from the deal. The Uruguay international striker has signed a three-year deal with the side, earning a fortune in the process.

Liverpool confirmed on its official website:

“Liverpool FC can confirm Darwin Nunez has completed a permanent transfer to Al-Hilal, subject to international clearance.

“The Uruguayan’s three-year spell with the Reds concludes after he finalised a switch to the Saudi Pro League side today.

“Everybody at the club would like to thank Darwin for his contributions and wish him and his family all the best for the future.”

Nunez sale sets up exciting end to the window at Anfield

When Nunez signed for Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp in 2022 for an initial €75m from Benfica, he became the most expensive player in the history of the club, yet he has struggled to justify such a lofty status.

Across his three campaigns at Anfield, he netted a total of 40 goals, finally falling out of favour with Arne Slot last season, when he managed just seven strikes.

His departure has cleared the way for the Reds to make a move for another attacking player, with Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak the dream target in the closing weeks of the transfer window.

Liverpool’s interest in the 25-year-old Sweden star has forced Newcastle to exile the striker, and though the latest reports indicate that they are ready to stand firm against selling their No.9, it is not a situation the former Real Sociedad star is happy with.

In case a move for Isak fails, if I reported that the Reds could make a move for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa.
