Oliver Glasner urges Crystal Palace to secure a club-record Premier League points tally before they can focus on the FA Cup final

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has challenged his side to set a club-record Premier League points tally before they return to Wembley for the FA Cup final.

Last season saw the Eagles finish 10th with 49 points, matching their 2018-19 total under Roy Hodgson and that of the 1992-93 campaign (a 42-game season).

Glasner’s side have 45 points heading into their final four matches and on Monday night they host Nottingham Forest looking to maintain momentum following the Cup semi-final win over Aston Villa.

Glasner said: ‘Our clear goal is we want the highest number of (Premier League) points in Palace history. That means we need five in four games — so the best way to achieve it is getting three against Forest and three against Tottenham because then we can focus on the final.’

Glasner will not let the final affect his selection choices before then. ‘I always pick the best team,’ he said. ‘That is the way to have the biggest chance to win it (the Cup). We don’t have to save energy. It is better staying in the rhythm than having two weeks with no game.’
