Ralf Rangnick casts major doubt over Man Utd consultancy role and hints Erik ten Hag could KO plans for him to stay on

MANCHESTER UNITED interim manager Ralf Rangnick has hinted that a consultancy role is NOT guaranteed under Erik ten Hag.

The club officially confirmed Ten Hag as their next permanent manager on Thursday.

The 52-year-old was given a three-year deal, with the option for a further 12 months.

The Red Devils have struggled under Rangnick’s guidance as gaffer and his latest comments cast doubt over the proposed plans to make him director of football in the summer.

Rangnick gave a press conference on Friday in the build up to Saturday’s game with rivals Arsenal.

Sky Sports report the German said Old Trafford bosses cannot make minor changes and need “open heart surgery” to fix their problems.

He added: “We have an agreement on that consultancy role, but in the end, it’s not a question of what has been written on paper or what has been agreed upon, it’s about what will really happen in everyday life, and in everyday’s business.

“It’s also important how Erik ten Hag sees that.

“Does he like to speak with somebody like myself?

“How close does he want to work together?

“And those are the things we haven’t spoken about yet.”

Man Utd were on the wrong end of a 4-0 battering from Liverpool earlier this week.

Rangnick was scathing of his team after the game and highlighted the distance between themselves and their counterparts.

The 63-year-old said: “It’s embarrassing.

“It’s completely disappointing and humiliating.

“We just have to accept they are six years ahead of us.”
