Rangers manager Russell Martin has been given money to strengthen the Ibrox side’s squad in the closing stages of the transfer window following a surprise big-money sale.

Brazilian left-back Jefte is set to leave for Palmeiras, according to the Rangers Review.

Impressively, the Gers stand to make an enormous profit on the 21-year-old, who arrived in a €800,000 deal from APOEL Nicosia little over a year ago. It is stated that Rangers are set to receive nearly 10 times that amount, with the Brazilian giants ready to pay around €7 million (£6m) for the player.

The deal represents impressive value for Rangers. Not only is Jefte’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) only €5.9m, but he has not even emerged as a central figure in Martin’s plans early this season. He has started only three of six competitive fixtures.

Jefte’s departure is likely to force Rangers back into the transfer market, with Max Aarons having looked shaky when he has been deployed as a left-back and Ridvan Yilmaz expected to depart to Besiktas.

Jefte’s replacement already found?Nobel Mendy is set to arrive from Real Betis on a four-year contract, according to L’Equipe.

The 20-year-old had been expected to join PSV in the Eredivisie but administrative issues put an end to the deal.

Rangers are set to pay the Spanish club €3m for the former Paris FC star, who had two years left remaining on his deal in Seville.

The Gers are set to get themselves a bargain in this respect as Mendy has an ETV worth €4.2m.

Mendy mostly played as a left-sided centre-back for Betis’ B team last season but it seems that he could be repurposed to play as a full-back for the Gers.
