Rangers manager Russell Martin could find his search for a new attacker super-charged in a matter of days as the Glasgow club discuss a deal that could change the shape of their transfer window.
The Ibrox side’s set for a striker is set to step up, but it is also set to be fuelled by big money as the potential sale of Hamza Igamane is discussed.
Igamane, who scored 16 goals and created three more for the Gers across all competitions last season, is in talks with Ligue 1 side Lille over a potential move to France. Lille want the Moroccan to replace Jonathan David, who will leave to become a free agent when his contract expires at the end of the month.
Sacha Tavolieri of Sky Sport Switzerland reports that the deal is already well advanced.
“Lille have chosen Hamza Igamane as Jonathan David’s replacement!” he tweets. “A decisive meeting was held this Wednesday, during which Igamane agreed to personal terms.
“LOSC are in talks with Rangers to reach a deal.”
Marseille had been heavily rumoured to be interested in Igamane but it appears that it is their Ligue 1 rivals who have won the race to sign the striker.
Lille ready to pay big money for Igamane
A transfer fee of €20 million has been touted. If Igamane was to be sold for this figure, he would become the most expensive forward ever sold by Rangers as well as their second-biggest sale ever. Only Calvin Bassey, who moved to Ajax for €23m in 2022, went for a bigger fee.
This price would also represent excellent business by the Gers’ board. Igamane has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €5.9m and was not even first pick as centre-forward in Glasgow last season as Cyriel Dessers was more typically preferred by both Philippe Clement and Barry Ferguson.
Rangers would be well advised to sell Igamane at the price quoted, particularly if it can super-charge Martin’s push for new players.
