Rangers keen on Kevin Thelwell for Ibrox role when Everton director of football departs Toffees in the summer

Mail Sport understands that Kevin Thelwell is in pole position to land a key role at Ibrox either as sporting director or director or football.

Thelwell has worked previously with Wolves, New York Red Bulls, and latterly with Everton as their director of football.

Identified by chief executive Patrick Stewart and the Rangers hierarchy as a key role they want to fill as soon as possible, an appointment could now be imminent.

Thelwell, 51, has held a number of positions with clubs across England, including Derby and Preston, and also worked with the FA in a coaching capacity.

Everton director of football Kevin Thelwell will leave the club in the summer – and could be set for a move to Rangers in similar role

It was at Wolves where he began to carve a reputation for himself after starting off working in the academy before moving up to become head of recruitment and then director of football.

After two years working as head of sport for the New York Red Bulls in the MLS, he returned to England to join Everton in 2022.

It was announced last month that Thelwell was to leave Everton in the summer as the club embark on a period of restructuring.
