Real Madrid legend Luka Modric has agreed a shock move to AC Milan on a free transfer.

That is according to Italian transfer guru Alfredo Pedulla, who reports that Modic has agreed a one year contract with Milan.

Modric’s contract at the Santiago Bernabeu expires at the end of June and he has already announced his farewell to the club after the Club World Cup.

Modric to join AC Milan

All that is missing now to complete the deal is Modric’s signature on the contract, which is expected imminently.

Modric will be the replacement of Tijani Reijnders, who is set to join Manchester City for a fee of around €70m.

Modric turns 40 this year but Milan still believe he is capable of playing at the highest level for at least another year.

The midfielder supported Milan as a child and has been close to moving to the club in the past.

Modric is remembered as one of the greatest players in Real Madrid and football history.

Modric arrived from Tottenham in 2012 for a fee of €35 million and went onto become a Real Madrid legend.

Having won 28 trophies at the club, Modric was announced as the club’s captain last summer and he was still a regular figure in Carlo Ancelotti’s team this past season.

“Beyond the titles and victories, I carry in my heart the affection of all Madrid fans,” Modric said when announcing his exit.

“I really don’t know how to explain the special connection I have with you and how supported, respected and loved I have felt and feel. I will never forget each ovation and all the gestures of affection you have shown me.

“Leaving with a full heart. Filled with pride, gratitude and unforgettable memories. And even though, after the Club World Cup, I’m no longer going to wear this shirt on the field, I’ll always be a Madrid fan.”

Modric won the Ballon d’Or in 2018 and has been capped an incredible 186 times by Croatia.
