Really Surprised By The Shot Nicholas Pooran Played Against Ravichandran Ashwin – Parthiv Patel After 2nd T20I

Date:

Former India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel has criticised the West Indies National Cricket Team captain Nicholas Pooran for playing an irresponsible shot against veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to get dismissed in the second T20I at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts.

While chasing a comparatively small target of 139 runs in the 2nd T20I, Pooran came out to bat in the 7th over after the dismissal of Kyle Mayers. Pooran looked good with the bat and smashed a couple of good boundaries before being dismissed by Ashwin in the 10th over.

The West Indies captain played a mighty slog after not getting to the pitch of the ball and the ball went towards the long-on where Suryakumar Yadav grabbed a good catch and Pooran was able to score 14 runs off 11 balls.

Speaking on Cricbuzz, former wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel opined that Pooran should have played a bit more cautiously against Ashwin. He elaborated:

“Really surprised by the shot Pooran played. Every time a left-arm batter comes in, you see Ashwin bowling and he bowls really well to them. So, you need to become smarter, pick your bowlers while chasing such a total and Ashwin is not the easiest bowler to do that against.

“That’s where he could have just taken singles against the off-spinner and take on the left-arm spinner instead. So, that was probably an irresponsible shot by him”

I believe in T20, better batsmen have to bat long – Nicholas Pooran

Speaking after the 5-wicket win over India, the West Indies skipper said that he and Shimron Hetmyer could take more responsibility. He elaborated:

A win is a win. I believe in T20, better batsmen have to bat long. Myself, Hetmyer can take more responsibility. King should have won the game for us with the way he was batting. But hopefully he will learn from this. Thomas returned back for us after injury and came out trumps on his home ground.”

Meanwhile, the third match of the series will be played at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts on Tuesday, August 2 and the match will begin at a revised time of 9:30 pm IST.
