The Football Association (FA) has confirmed that Reece James has withdrawn from the England squad and will not play against Ukraine on Sunday due to an ongoing issue.
According to the Telegraph, the Chelsea right-back is struggling with a minor hamstring injury, and both his club and country are hoping that his decision to withdraw from England duty is only precautionary.
James came on for the final few minutes of England’s historic win against Italy on Thursday night but has had a tough campaign so far. He has missed more than half of Chelsea’s Premier League games this season due to a recurring knee problem that ruled him out from October to Christmas.
James returned in February, but a hamstring issue and illness have restricted him to only 18 games in all competitions for the club this season.
James is the latest player to withdraw from the England squad due to injury, following the footsteps of Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount, and Nick Pope.
All three players pulled out before the Italy game. Additionally, Luke Shaw is suspended for Sunday’s game against Ukraine after receiving a red card in Naples.
However, reports suggest that England coach Gareth Southgate is not planning to call anyone else up to the squad for Sunday’s match.
