Rio Ferdinand is reportedly poised to work with Manchester United in a surprise new role for the coming months.
The former United defender stepped away from his punditry role with TNT Sports in May after more than a decade of service.
During the club’s tour of the United States this summer, the 46-year-old was involved in media and commercial content.
That included keeping a tour diary, documenting his travels around New York and Chicago and sharing his thoughts on the team’s performances.
He also starred on-camera in player interviews and helped out with matchday content as part of a short-term deal.
According to The Sun, Ferdinand is ‘likely’ continue to work with them on a freelance basis over the next few months in a similar capacity.

The same applies to Gary Neville, though he will have his ongoing commitment with Sky Sports.
Meanwhile, Gareth Bale has joined TNT Sports as Ferdinand’s replacement, as per The Guardian.
Bale will work with the broadcaster across their Premier League and Champions League coverage for the 2025-26 campaign.
The former Tottenham, Real Madrid, and Wales star has already dipped his toe into punditry for a handful of games last season.
He made his ‘debut’ for TNT Sports in the Champions League when Liverpool beat Real Madrid 2-0 and also took up a mic in the Europa League final between Spurs and Manchester United.
Bale was also involved in DAZN and Channel 5’s coverage of the Club World Cup.
Speaking about his TNT Sports exit earlier this season, Ferdinand said: ‘Since retiring from football it has been a privilege talking about the game I love for a decade for sports fans watching on BT Sport and TNT Sports.
‘I want to acknowledge the tremendous support from the team behind the scenes whose hard work often goes unseen but has been essential to our success.
