Roy Keane has been named as a pundit for CBS Sports for the Europa League final between Manchester United and Tottenham.

The Old Trafford legend will join Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards as well as host Anita Jones for the crunch match on Wednesday night.

CBS announced the crew for their Europa League final broadcast, but regular presenter Kate Abdo and usual pundit Thierry Henry will be absent.

And so Keane is drafted in for what will be his debut on the American network – 23 years into his punditry career.

The Irishman will be able to bring his expertise of having won the 1998-99 Champions League final with United.

It is a night which presents some element of conflict for Keane, 53, considering he grew up a Spurs fan.

Fans have hit out at CBS for excluding Kate Abdo and Thierry Henry

As well as for having no former Spurs pundits

But fans have hit out at having no former Spurs pundits – and for excluding Kate Abdo and Thierry Henry

‘Just because I played for Manchester United didn’t mean I was a fan of the team,’ he once said.

‘When I played for Rockmount, one of my teammate’s fathers used to bring me to training and he supported Tottenham. That’s where it started, I liked their players, the likes of Glenn Hoddle and Clive Allen.

‘But after I’d come back from trial at Nottingham Forest, Spurs offered me a trial.”

He added: ‘I turned it down because Forest had been good me, I liked the club and felt some loyalty to them. I had a soft spot for Spurs, and still do.’

Don’t worry if you’re a regular Sky Sports viewer, though – it’s not as if Keane is jumping ship permanently.

The former midfielder took part in a recent advert for Sky Sports’ coverage for the next Premier League season, which is expanding to 215 games on the channel.

He has been a vocal critic of his former club throughout his work with Sky this season.

However, supporters are concerned that CBS’ panel could have done with a former Spurs player to balance it out.

‘Just out of curiosity (and pardon my naivité), but why is there no former Tottenham players/coaches invited in the studio as well?’ one fan asked on X. ‘Considering Roy is a Man U legend just thought it would’ve been nice to have someone from Tottenham there.’

Others were upset to see a change from the regular crew.

‘They betrayed Kate (Abdo),’ one wrote.

‘I think Kate and the gang should cover all the European competitions from now on,’ another said.

‘Ah, so the people that have been covering it all year aren’t good got the final? WTF is this,’ one said.
