Erik ten Hag is being tipped to take up a major managerial role in the Bundesliga after being sacked as Manchester United manager earlier this season.
Ten Hag is mentioned along with former Barcelona head coach Xavi as being a primary candidate to take command over Bayer Leverkusen, with the shock 2023/24 Bundesliga champions anticipating the departure of Xabi Alonso.
Alonso is expected to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid. Despite the fact that the Italian’s expected move to the Brazil national team appears to have collapsed, he is still expected to depart the Bernabeu in the summer.
“Basically, it’s our job to prepare for many eventualities in theory,” says managing director Simon Rolfes is quoted as saying. “You can trust me to think one step ahead.”

Ten Hag top of the shortlist
Indeed, the Dutchman is the top candidate, despite a wretched time in charge of Man Utd, according to the German source.
Ten Hag’s key advantages are that he has previously coached in Germany before, working with Bayern Munich’s reserve team, and he speaks the language well. His possession-based brand of football is said to be what B04 are looking for.
Both Ten Hag and Xavi are being chased because Leverkusen believe they are capable of maintaining the attack-minded philosophy that the club has nurtured under Alonso.
It appears that Ten Hag’s spell at Man Utd has not damaged his reputation too significantly given that he still stands and excellent chance of landing a post as high profile as the Bayer Leverkusen job.
