Andy Murray to Return in Geneva as Wild Card

admin

Andy Murray will return from injury next week at the Geneva Open, before playing the French Open for the first time since 2020.

The 36-year-old, almost certainly playing his final season on tour, ruptured an ankle ligament in Miami in March and has not been on court since.

It looked a long shot that he would be fit for the French Open but Murray consulted medical experts and decided not to have surgery.

The Scot has tended to eschew the clay court season since his hip problems began, the feeling being that the surface is more punishing to the joint that hard courts or, especially, grass.

But in his swansong season he expressed a desire to play one last time in Paris and, against the odds after his ankle injury, he will get his wish – provided he pulls up OK in Switzerland.

After the French Open he will begin his preparations for Wimbledon at the grass court event in Stuttgart, which starts on June 10.
