Sep. 21—NEW LONDON — With three singles wins and a three-set victory at No. 3 doubles, the Annandale girls tennis team eked out a Wright County Conference win.
The Cardinals beat the fifth-ranked (Class A) Wildcats 4-3 at New London-Spicer High School.
In the decisive No. 3 doubles match, Annandale’s Ava Townsend and Felicity Fischer came back from a first-set loss to beat Heidi Taunton and Averi Hanson 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
NLS was 1-2 in matches decided by three sets. The lone win came at No. 1 doubles as the senior combo of Delaney Hanson and Madisyn Claseman beat Amy Eckstrom and Bryn Fahey 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.
Brianna Wileman and Jadyn Proehl also won at No. 2 doubles for the Wildcats.
The lone singles win came via Ella Wieland. The NLS senior beat Lauren Rassier at No. 2 singles, 7-6, 6-3.
NLS travels to Sauk Centre at 4 p.m. Monday.

Litchfield earned victories at Nos. 2, 3 and 4 singles and Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to earn the Wright County Conference win over Glencoe-Silver Lake at Litchfield.
At No. 3 doubles, the Dragons’ Tayah Damerow and Brynn Nagel closed out strong with a 6-4, 7-6 victory over Finley Guerrero and Aby Smith.
The Dragons host an invitational beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday at Litchfield.

Emmie Larson picked up the win for Willmar in a Central Lakes Conference match against Fergus Falls at Willmar High School.
Willmar drops to 1-7 in the CLC and 1-10 overall. Fergus Falls is now 4-3 in the CLC and 11-3 overall.
Larson won her No. 3 singles match over the Otters’ Layla Zosel, 7-6, 6-3.
The Cardinals play host to Sartell at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Knight-DeWeerd and Commerford got wins over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Upsala/Swanville’s Jaceline Hernandez and Kyra Swanson (6-4, 6-2) and St. John’s Prep’s Sophie Grandy and Tsugumi Kawabe (6-4, 6-4).

Sauk Centre’s Emma Klaphake knocked off Brianna Nelson 1-6, 6-1, 10-7.
