Sep. 27—GEORGETOWN, Ky. — Cumberland’s Julian Parada and Vitor Ferreira won the ITA Southeast regional doubles championship Sunday morning to earn an automatic bid to the ITA Cup in Rome, Ga.

The duo battled all match with Jan Silhavy and Miguel Perez from Lindsey Wilson. The match had to go to tiebreakers to determine the champion. Parada and Ferreira got up early in the tiebreaker 4-2, but the Lindsey Wilson doubles team won the next four points to go up. 6-4.

A few points later, Silhavy and Perez had match point leading 7-6, but Cumberland staved off the point and then won the next three to win the doubles title 9-7.

Ferreira and Parada will compete at the ITA Cup in Rome, Ga., October 12-15. Parada has a chance to earn an at-large bid for singles competition with reaching the semifinals, but we will have to wait for the committee to announce the selections in the coming weeks.

This is the second-straight season Cumberland has sent a doubles team to the ITA Cup. Last season, Pavel Kelo and Adrijan Hrzic competed at the ITA Cup in doubles and finished in the top 10 in the NAIA.
