Sep. 26—WILLMAR — The Willmar girls tennis team won three of four singles matches, but couldn’t come up with a win in doubles.

It added up to a 4-3 loss to the Sartell Sabres on Tuesday afternoon at the Willmar High School tennis courts.

Adali Laidlaw won at No. 1 singles for the Cardinals. She beat Charlotte Lau 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Kennedy Mara earned the victory at No. 2, beating the Sabres’ Johanna Hamilton 6-1, 6-2. Emily Floren nabbed Willmar’s other point at No. 4 singles. She beat Caitlyn Burns 6-4, 3-6, 10-6.

Willmar is now 1-8 in the Central Lakes Conference and 1-11 overall. Sartell is 4-6 in conference play and 7-12 overall.

Willmar’s next match is against Rocori at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Willmar.

Osakis handed New London-Spicer its first loss to a section opponent with the victory at New London.

“We had a very close meet against Osakis today,” NLS head coach Nancy Rost said. “Our deciding match was at No. 4 singles.”

At No. 4, the Silverstreaks’ Ava Drevlow defeated Emma Friedel 6-4, 5-7 (2-7), 6-2 to earn the match victory.

NLS heads to the Wright County Conference tournament that begins at noon Thursday at Glencoe-Silver Lake High School.

Litchfield edged Mound-Westonka in a Wright County Conference match at Minnetrista.

The Dragons earned points at Nos. 1, 3 and 4 singles and No. 1 doubles.

Litchfield’s toughest point came at No. 3 singles. Kendra Ball defeated Suzie Marth 7-6, 6-7, 10-8 to earn the victory for Litchfield.

Litchfield competes in the conference tournament beginning at noon Thursday at Glencoe-Silver Lake.

Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock swept the doubles and won three of four singles to beat Yellow Medicine East at Granite Falls.

Ellie Kletscher at No. 1, Molly Jones at No. 2 and Tara Beyer at No. 4 all won their singles matches in straight sets.

YME’s victory came at No. 3 singles. Emma Keller, ninth-grader, beat Ava Oakes 6-1, 7-5 to earn the Sting’s lone point.

YME next plays at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Pipestone against the Arrows. Benson/KMS participates in the West Central Conference tournament that begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Alexandria. YME also will be there.

Minnewaska swept singles play and won points at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles to beat Sauk Centre in a West Central Conference match at Minnewaska.

Olivia Danielson at No. 1, Rachel Rankin at No. 2, Addy Heid at No. 3 and Kaylen Blair at No. 4 all earned points for the Lakers.

The Mainstreeters’ Avery Rieland and Amber Groetsch beat Katie Sorenson and Brianna Erickson 7-6 (4), 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.

Minnewaska’s next competition is the conference tournament that begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in Alexandria.

MACCRAY won three of four singles matches and swept doubles play to beat Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd at Clara City.

Tayte Nokleby at No 1, Greta Meyer at No. 2 and Erika Pieper at No. 3 all earned singles points for the Wolverines.

There were four three-set matches, including one in doubles.

Meyer beat Kayla Jahn 6-1, 5-7, 10-3. Pieper defeated Sadie Hacker 6-4, 7-6 (8-6). At No. 4 singles, LQPV/DB’s Elsie Wiebe beat MaKenna Burnette 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.

The Wolverines also picked up a three-set win at No. 2 doubles. Addie Plagge and Iris Donner beat Alexis Olesen and Maya Virji 6-4, 3-6, 10-3.

MACCRAY next plays at 4 p.m. Thursday at Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa. LQPV/DB is scheduled to play at 4 p.m. Thursday at Montevideo.
