Oct. 4—WILKES-BARRE — Scranton Prep and Wyoming Seminary set up their girls tennis team showdown with wins in the semifinals of the District 2 Class 2A tournament Wednesday morning.
Both teams are the champions from their respective conferences this season. Scranton Prep is the defending champion in the district event.
Alyssa Wigley, Ilanya Lengyel and Emma Cuck swept their singles matches in straight sets to defeat Dallas, 4-0.
Wyoming Seminary defeated Holy Redeemer, 4-0, as Ilana Rosenthal, who is the defending PIAA Class 2A champion, defeated Alanna Gilchrist, while Lizzie Weaver and Kimi Li also had wins in singles.
Class 3A
Abington Heights, the defending five-time champion, advanced to the final with a 3-0 win over Delaware Valley.
Susan Arp and Sona Hanumali won their singles matches and the No. 1 doubles team of Mary Booth-Bernie Mullin earned a win for the Lady Comets.
Abington Heights will face Valley View in the final.
The Cougars defeated Wallenpaupack, 3-0, in a match where the players battled each other and the heat.
Sarah Sweeney earned a win at No. 2 singles when Sarah Niemiec could not continue after showing signs of fatigue.
The Cougars also got a win from Ella Swingle at No. 3 singles and from the No. 1 doubles team of Tessa Stafursky-Ally Stafursky.
