Sturgis Tennis Dominates Once More on Home Turf

STURGIS — The Sturgis tennis team has had a busy week with plenty of matches on the courts.

That continued on Thursday afternoon with a make-up dual matchup against visiting Plainwell. The Trojans in blue and white were supposed to play those in orange and black last week, but because of weather, the match had to be moved. The 10th-ranked Trojans already had conference victories in the hand against Vicksburg (6-2) and Three Rivers (8-0) from earlier in the week.

On Thursday, they continued the solid streak, beating Plainwell 8-0 at Augspurger Courts. It was the fifth consecutive conference win for Sturgis on the season.

Christian Perry eyes a return shot in his matchup on Tuesday afternoon against Three Rivers.

Sturgis made quick work of the match as well. The Trojans earned wins in all eight flights and each of those flights lasted only two sets.

Singles play was even more impressive as all four Sturgis players held their opponents to double bagels. That is, none of their opponents were able to win a game against them and finished the match with Sturgis winning 6-0, 6-0. Picking up those victories for Sturgis were George Ebert at first singles, Grady Miller at second singles, Christian Perry at third singles and Preston Gump at fourth singles.

Luke Frost and Draker Harker won over Andrew Hampton and Teagan Wilson in first-doubles play. Their scores were 6-1 and 6-1.

Sturgis also won comfortably at third doubles. There, Easton Barkby and Wyatt Miller beat Anthony Kolhoff and Brayden Triemstra with scores of 6-4 and 6-2.

Completing the sweep with a win at fourth doubles was Tristan Clark and Brody Currier. They won by a score of 6-0, 6-1 over Lincoln Benson and Sean MacRitchie.
