Taylor Fritz loses in five-set Wimbledon thriller

Taylor Fritz has been knocked out of Wimbledon after losing his quarter-final against Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti.

The American’s influencer girlfriend Morgan Riddle, who sparked backlash earlier this week, watched on from a box on Court One as Fritz was beaten 3-6, 7-6, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.

Musetti’s prize for eliminating Fritz is a semi-final against Novak Djokovic – who was given a free pass into the final four on Wednesday after opponent Alex de Minaur pulled out with an injury.

It’s been a stressful few days for Fritz as he tried to split attention between his performances on the court and his girlfriend’s antics off it.

Riddle, a fashion influencer, became embroiled in a spat with Alexander Zverev when Fritz knocked him out of the tournament in London.

The German, who was accused of physically abusing the mother of his child in 2020, agreed to pay her $217,820 in a settlement last year. However, he was found not guilty of any wrongdoing.

After losing to 26-year-old Fritz, Zverev said he was upset with some people in the California native’s box who ‘may not be from the tennis world.’

‘His team is extremely respectful. I think his coach, his physio, also his second coach, they’re extremely respectful,’ Zverev said.

‘I think there’s some other people that maybe are in the box that are not maybe from the tennis world, that are not maybe from particularly watching every single match. They were a bit over the top.’

It appeared to have been a reference to Riddle, who declared Fritz’s victory was a ‘win 4 the girls’ in a since-deleted Instagram Story.

She later addressed the cryptic post, clarifying, ‘Regarding my stories yesterday… i took them down as soon as i realized the misunderstanding and how blown out of proportion they had become by the media.’

She went on, ‘They were not about anything that’s happened off the tennis court & there’s no bad blood between anyone.’

Although the social media sensation isn’t preparing to step foot on court, she’s keeping very busy throughout the prestigious tournament.

Having made a name for herself as a fashion guru, Riddle is hosting a series called Wimbledon Threads in which she interviews fans at the notoriously glamorous event about their outfits.

She was also spotted out on the town at the launch of fashion brand Peppermayo’s UK site.

Riddle later stepped out at the tournament in a cream dress designed by the Australian label, pairing the drop waist midi with a pair of pumps adorned with strawberries.
