Ousmane Dembélé and Chloe Kelly Claim 2025 Ballon d’Or Honors
The 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony, held at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, saw Ousmane Dembélé and Chloe Kelly crowned the best players in the world for their outstanding performances during the 2024/25 season. The prestigious event, which is in its 69th year, celebrated a season of triumph for Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal, whose players dominated the final vote.
Men’s Ballon d’Or: Dembélé’s Triumph
In a year marked by a historic treble for Paris Saint-Germain, French winger Ousmane Dembélé was voted the winner of the Men’s Ballon d’Or. Dembélé was the undisputed star of PSG’s campaign, leading the line in their successful Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and maiden Champions League title wins. His electrifying pace, creativity, and clutch performances in key matches, including the Champions League final, secured his place atop the podium.
The voting reflected a clear shift in power, with nine PSG players making the shortlist of 30 nominees. Teenage sensation Lamine Yamal of Barcelona, who had an incredible breakthrough season, was a strong contender but ultimately finished behind Dembélé. Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, fresh off a Premier League title, also received significant votes.
Women’s Ballon d’Or: A Historic Win for Kelly
The Women’s Ballon d’Or saw a surprise winner in Chloe Kelly of Arsenal. Kelly, who won the Women’s Champions League with Arsenal and the Women’s Euro with England, secured the award after a season of remarkable consistency and high-impact moments. Her decisive penalty in the Euro final and her crucial role in Arsenal’s continental success were major factors in the voting.
Kelly’s win marked a historic moment for Arsenal, which also had several other players on the shortlist, including Alessia Russo and Leah Williamson. She faced stiff competition from two-time winner Aitana Bonmatí of Barcelona, but her trophy haul and individual brilliance in major finals tipped the scales in her favor.
