Theo Walcott has admitted that he could retire from football at the end of the season, aged just 34. The former Arsenal and England winger, who currently plays for Everton, has hinted at a shock career change, saying he is “open to anything”.
Walcott, who has been at Everton since 2018, has made just 11 appearances this season, with his last outing coming in the FA Cup third round defeat to Manchester City in January.
The 34-year-old, who has also had spells at Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur, has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park in recent weeks, with reports suggesting he could be set for a move to the MLS.
However, speaking to Sky Sports, Walcott has revealed that he could hang up his boots at the end of the season, saying: “I’m open to anything. I’m 34 now and I’m not getting any younger. I’m not going to be playing football forever.”
Walcott, who has scored 108 goals in 539 appearances in his career, has also hinted at a potential career change, saying: “I’m open to anything. I’m open to the idea of coaching, I’m open to the idea of media work, I’m open to the idea of anything.”
The former Arsenal man, who won 47 caps for England, has also revealed that he is keen to stay in the game, saying: “I’m still passionate about football and I want to stay in the game. I’m open to anything.”
Walcott’s admission that he could retire at the end of the season has come as a surprise to many, with the winger still having plenty to offer at the highest level.
However, with his contract at Everton set to expire in the summer, it appears that Walcott could be set for a shock career change, with the 34-year-old open to any opportunity that comes his way.
