On Saturday night, retired boxing champion Carl Frampton made an awkward exchange with Love Islander Tommy Fury when he picked YouTube star Jake Paul to beat him in a fight.
The exchange happened during an interview on BT Sport, when Frampton was asked who he thought would win in a fight between Fury and Paul. Frampton, who is a former two-weight world champion, said he thought Paul would win.
Fury, who is the younger brother of former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, was visibly taken aback by the comment. He responded by saying, “That’s a bit of a strange one, isn’t it?”
Frampton then tried to explain his reasoning, saying that Paul is “a lot bigger” than Fury and that he has “a lot of power”. He also said that Paul has “a lot of reach” and that he is “a lot more experienced” than Fury.
Fury, who is currently training for his professional boxing debut, seemed unconvinced by Frampton’s explanation. He said, “I don’t know about that. I’m not sure.”
The exchange was made even more awkward when Frampton then asked Fury if he had seen Paul’s recent fight against former NBA star Nate Robinson. Fury replied that he had not seen the fight, to which Frampton said, “Well, you should watch it.”
The exchange between Frampton and Fury was met with a mixed reaction on social media. Some people thought it was funny, while others thought it was a bit too awkward.
Regardless of the reaction, it is clear that Frampton believes Paul would be the favorite in a fight against Fury. Whether or not that would actually be the case remains to be seen.
Fury is currently training for his professional boxing debut, which is expected to take place later this year. Paul, on the other hand, is currently preparing for his next fight against former UFC champion Ben Askren.
It is unlikely that we will ever see a fight between Fury and Paul, but it is certainly an interesting thought. If it did happen, it would certainly be an interesting matchup.
