Tottenham and Bayern Munich in Advanced Talks for Mathys Tel After Thomas Frank’s Endorsement

French forward Mathys Tel is reportedly set to sign a permanent deal with Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Tel — who is currently in Slovakia representing France at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship — moved to north London on loan from Bayern Munich in February, with Spurs paying a loan fee worth around €10million (£8.5m).

The 20-year-old scored three goals in 20 appearances during his loan spell — but was an unused substitute in the 1-0 win over Man United in the Europa League final.

According to Sky Sport in Germany, talks between Spurs and Bayern are now at an ‘advanced stage’ over a deal that will see Tel stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It is said that Spurs are set to splash out an additional €35m (£29.8m) to Bayern, on top of the loan fee already paid.

Crucial to the deal going through was the approval of new Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank — and Sky claim that has been given.

Frank was confirmed as Tottenham’s replacement for Ange Postecoglou on Thursday.

As well as looking to keep Tel, Frank is understood to want Cameroon forward Bryan Mbeumo to join him at Spurs.

Frank signed Mbeumo for Brentford from French Ligue 2 side Troyes in 2019 and the 25-year-old rewarded him with 70 goals in 242 games — including 20 in the Premier League last season.

Mbeumo is also a transfer target for Manchester United but if he does sign for Spurs then he will reunite with multiple familiar faces — after Frank was followed from Brentford by three members of his coaching staff.
