Tottenham Hotspur are facing a battle to persuade Thomas Tuchel to become their new manager, despite the former Chelsea boss being a lifelong Spurs fan.
The German has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea in March, and has been linked with a number of clubs, including Tottenham.
Tuchel is believed to be keen on a return to management, and Spurs are keen to bring him in to replace Jose Mourinho, who was sacked last month.
However, there are a number of obstacles that Spurs must overcome if they are to convince Tuchel to take the job.
The first is his loyalty to his former club, Chelsea. Tuchel enjoyed a successful spell at Stamford Bridge, leading the club to the Champions League final and winning the FA Cup. He is still held in high regard by the Chelsea fans, and it is unlikely that he would want to take over at their London rivals.
The second obstacle is money. Spurs are not in a position to offer Tuchel the kind of salary he was earning at Chelsea, and he may be reluctant to take a pay cut.
The third obstacle is the club’s current situation. Spurs are in the midst of a difficult period, with the team struggling in the Premier League and the club’s finances in a precarious state. Tuchel may be reluctant to take on a job that could be difficult to turn around.
Finally, there is the question of whether Tuchel is the right man for the job. He has a reputation for being a demanding coach, and his style of play may not be suited to the current Spurs squad.
Despite these obstacles, Spurs are still hopeful that they can persuade Tuchel to take the job. They are reportedly willing to offer him a lucrative contract, and are confident that he can turn the club’s fortunes around.
Tuchel is a lifelong Spurs fan, and the chance to manage his boyhood club may be too good to turn down. It remains to be seen whether Spurs can convince him to take the job, but it is clear that they face a battle to do so.
