Tottenham Should Sack Conte and Appoint Out-of-Work Manager: Merson

Tottenham Hotspur have been urged to sack manager Antonio Conte and appoint an out-of-work manager ‘as soon as possible’ by former England legend Paul Merson.

The north London club have endured a difficult start to the season, with Conte’s side currently sitting in ninth place in the Premier League table, having won just four of their opening 11 matches.

And Merson believes that Spurs should act quickly to replace the Italian, and has suggested that they should look to appoint an out-of-work manager to take charge of the team.

“I think Tottenham should sack Antonio Conte and get an out-of-work manager in as soon as possible,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“I think they need to act quickly and get someone in who can get the team playing again.

“I think they need someone who can come in and get the team playing with a bit of confidence and get them back to winning ways.

Merson believes that the club should look to appoint a manager who has experience of managing in the Premier League, and has suggested that former Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri could be a good fit for the job.

“I think they should look at someone like Claudio Ranieri,” he said.

“He’s an experienced manager who knows the Premier League and he’s done a great job at Leicester City.

“He’s a manager who knows how to get the best out of his players and he’s a manager who knows how to win.

Merson also believes that the club should look to appoint a manager who can bring a sense of stability to the club, and has suggested that former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal could be a good fit for the job.

“I think they should look at someone like Louis van Gaal,” he said.
