Now that the domestic season is over for all major European leagues, clubs can now focus on their preparations for the 2025/26 campaign, with a natural focus on recruitment.
The big spenders will be out in force again, with Real Madrid looking to back new boss Xabi Alonso, Chelsea keen to improve again after securing Champions League qualification, and Manchester United desperate to reclaim some kind of success after a disastrous season that saw them finish just three places above the relegation zone in the Premier League.
The Red Devils have signed Matheus Cunha, with Man City also flexing their financial power to sign Tijani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli and Rayan Cherki.
Other clubs are free to complete deals.
Some questions that will hang over the transfer window this season:
- Will Viktor Gyokeres leave Sporting CP?
- Who will sign Victor Osimhen?
- How much can Barcelona spend?
- Will top players want to join Man Utd?
- Will Arsenal sign a world-class striker?

Man Utd want to keep Zirkzee
Man Utd are keen to give Joshua Zirkzee another season to impress despite rumours about a possible return to Italy for the striker.
The Dutchman arrived at Old Trafford from Atalanta last summer and scored on his debut for a perfect start, but like the whole squad, his form deteriorated, with just three goals and one assist recorded in 32 top flight matches for the Red Devils.
Inter, Milan, Juventus and Napoli have all been mentioned as potential destinations, but Corriere dello Sport reports he will stay put for now.
Real Madrid to pull another Trent on Liverpool?
Real Madrid want to sign Ibrahima Konate on a free transfer next summer when his Liverpool contract expires.
Such a move would have echoes of the Trent Alexander-Arnold saga that lasted the course of last season, so it seems Madrid really enjoy messing with Liverpool fans out there!
The Reds are keen to tie Konate down to an extended deal, but there is also interest from Paris Saint-Germain. (Marca)

Xabi Alonso to rule with an iron fist
It seems no player at Real Madrid – not even Kylian Mbappe – is safe from Xabi Alonso’s high expectations when it comes to working hard and pressing.
Cadena SER journalist Javier Herraez confirmed that he has been told by club sources: “I can assure you that whoever doesn’t run and doesn’t make an effort is not going to play – no matter what their name is.
“If you skip a run, that’s a yellow card. Do it again, and you get a red. With Xabi Alonso – and you guys know him – there’s no messing around. If you save yourself from making pointless runs… that’s another thing. It’s not like you have to run like a defender, but you will have to press the centre-back the whole time.
“It’s not going to work for you to just stand there waiting for something to be given to you so you can kick it in. You’re going to have to run for every ball.”

Moroccan side held talks with Ronaldo
Moroccan side Wydad AC have confirmed they held talks with Cristiano Ronaldo.
Last month it seemed like CR7’s time at Al-Nassr was over which led to him being linked with a number of clubs including several involved in the Club World Cup like Wydad and Botafogo.
A romantic return to Sporting CP was even mentioned, but he eventually agreed to a lucrative extension with the Saudi Pro League side. (RMC Sport)

Rashford only wants Barcelona
Should Marcus Rashford leave Man Utd this summer, it will only be for Barcelona.
The United forward spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, seemingly flourishing away from the pressures of Old Trafford.
He is apparently not in Ruben Amorim’s plans, while the club will be glad to get him off the wage bill, but Rashford only wants to move to the Blaugrana, should the Spanish giants make an approach. (El Nacional)
Gabriel wants Rodrygo at Arsenal
Gabriel wants compatriot Rodrygo to join him at Arsenal.
“I don’t know. I would like it but who knows? Rodrygo for me is a phenomenon,” the Brazilian defender told the Podpah podcast when asked if Rodrygo was signing for the Gunners.
“People are mentioning his name a lot. If it depended on me, of course. As I said, he is a phenomenon.”
Rodrygo has been linked with a big-money move to the Emirates.

Bayern concede defeat in Wirtz chase
Bayern Munich have conceded defeat in the race to sign Florian Wirtz, with the player set to join Liverpool.
“I don’t know if we could have paid the price that Liverpool now seems to have to pay,” club director Max Eberl said. “It was clear, the entire club communicated that the player was outstanding. And that we could very well have imagined him moving to FC Bayern.
“Everyone was at the table. But Florian decided otherwise. That’s how it is in the transfer market,” he added. “In the first step, you say: Damn. But one door closes, another opens. Now we’ll reposition ourselves for the future. Florian will make his way at Liverpool. He’s an exceptional player. But I always say this: We already have exceptional players at our stadium. It would have been a good fit if another exceptional player had joined us. But now we’re trying to find another outstanding player to help us succeed.”
