Trent Alexander-Arnold thanked Liverpool fans for their love and support after declaring he’ll always be a Reds supporter as he announced he will leave his boyhood club at the end of the season.Ā

The right-back promised to return to Anfield in some capacity and said he hopes to bring his children and show them ‘where I’ve played’ and ‘what we were able to achieve’.Ā

The heartfelt message comes as he ended months of speculation surrounding his future on Monday morning by confirming that he will not be renewing his contract which expires at the end of the campaign.Ā

Alexander-Arnold is expected to join Spanish giants Real Madrid next season.Ā

In a message to supporters, he said: ‘There’s a lot I would like to say. The main thing is a massive thank you. You guys have been there from the start with me, you guys have supported me, been there.Ā

‘I’ve felt the support, the love, everything that you guys have done has never been unnoticed by me, I’ve loved every single minute of it. I hope they have felt that has been reciprocated and that I’ve given everything I could to the club. I’ve done things I never thought I’d be able to do, and to do them with the fans and supporters of this club has been something I’ll never forget. I’ve got many, many memories that will live with me forever.Ā

‘There’s no doubt about it, I’ll be back – I’d love one day to be able to bring my kids to AnfieldĀ and show them that that’s where I’ve played and show them the videos and highlights of what we were able to achieve together.Ā

‘So just a huge thank you for that, thank you for everything you’ve ever done for me. Thank you for the support, thank you for the love that I’ve always felt, thank you for always having my back.Ā

‘I will always love the club, I will always love the people of the club, I will always love the fans and the supporters. Even though I’m leaving as player, as a fan I’ll always be a Liverpool fan.’

Mail Sport was the first English newspaper to report that Real Madrid were confident of securing Alexander-Arnold way back in December – and not much has changed along the way.

It is understood that the contract is not officially signed yet but will be soon, with the England international set to join his good pal and Three Lions team-mate Jude Bellingham in the Spanish capital.

Alexander-Arnold was free to open talks with Real and other overseas clubs on New Year’s Day after letting his Reds deal run down.

Sporting director Richard Hughes’ first call in the job was to Alexander-Arnold’s representatives and the final offer would have made him the best-paid full back in the Premier League.

Liverpool are satisfied they tried their very best to tempt him to stay.

After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season.

This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life.

I know many of you have wondered why or been frustrated that I haven’t spoken about this… pic.twitter.com/emAw5RvXq0

Real will now seek to sign him in time for the FIFA Club World Cup in June with a 10-day window for transfers. That will likely require some compensation and Liverpool’s cooperation – which is not guaranteed – but the Spanish club will try.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti is widely expected to leave the club this summer with Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso the hot favourite to take over from the Italian.

Alexander-Arnold joined Liverpool aged six and has played 352 times for his boyhood club. He is the vice-captain and has won every trophy he can – the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
