The highly anticipated heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk is still at risk of collapse, according to promoter Bob Arum.
The fight was initially scheduled for July 24th, but has been delayed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Arum has now admitted that he “can’t force” the fight to happen, and that it is still in danger of not taking place.
The fight was set to be a huge event, with Fury looking to defend his WBC heavyweight title against the former undisputed cruiserweight champion Usyk. It would have been a huge test for Usyk, who is looking to make the step up to heavyweight and prove himself as a top contender in the division.
However, the fight is now in serious doubt due to the ongoing pandemic. Arum has admitted that he is struggling to find a suitable venue for the fight, and that he is unable to guarantee that it will take place.
He said: “I can’t force the fight. I’m trying to find a place to do it, but I can’t guarantee it. We’re looking at different places, but it’s not easy.”
The fight was originally scheduled to take place in Las Vegas, but the Nevada State Athletic Commission has yet to approve the event due to the ongoing pandemic. Arum has now revealed that he is looking at other venues, including the UK, but that he is struggling to find a suitable location.
He added: “We’re looking at other places, including the UK, but it’s not easy. We’re trying to find a place that will allow us to do it.”
The fight is still in danger of not taking place, and it remains to be seen if Arum will be able to find a suitable venue for the event. If the fight does take place, it will be a huge event and a major test for Usyk as he looks to make the step up to heavyweight.
