  9. Salaamun brother. There is no doubt in my mind that Allah SWA intended for believers to rely on reason, and there is in reality no other way for one to arrive at firm belief, whatever the reasons are. Furthermore, I don't see any legitimization of any secondary source of "juridic reflection". As an extension of reason, a muslim will be more likely Quran-centric, and therefore the groups (followers of reason and followers of quran vs followers of hadith and literalists) will overlap. must it be one or the other?

    On another note, I recall the Quran researcher Dr. Javad T Hashmi points out that even if we were to rely on Hadith we would not be able to derive the "ritual prayer" most widely practiced by Muslims today. I do find it somewhat difficult to derive the "traditional" 5 a day though from the Quran, and I do wonder if any Mutazilite commentators have written about this in tafsir, though few of those that survive have been translated into English. Have you come across anything? I see evidence in the Quran that as-Salat had at some point been a more comprehensive concept, that extended beyond "prayer" as it is commonly translated today, though I haven't come across a deeper lexical engagement in the classical commentaries we do have in English.

  18. Amanda is such a special fighter…although I am devastated at her retiring because I absolutely love watching her fights. I wish her nothing but the best healthy new baby and lots and lots of happiness with her wife and family. U really are an inspiration to many. And I doubt anyone will come close to achieving all that u did fighting the best competition and coming coming out victorious and retaining ur championship belts for 7 years… I've always dreamed of meeting u and at least taking a photo with u but I see that isn't gonna happen now. but u are truly the GOAT & NO1 COMES CLOSE TO U.
