I get so frustrated by how this damage rule is applied at times. It should be ”accumulated damage”, a hit that cause a pure knockdown or leaves someone shaken, not a single hit that makes it bleed (except a clean elbow that are often thrown to cut). It's so easy to get a small cut that bleeds without it being a shaking hit. As it is now one punch in the first round that causes a small cut that bleeds through the match (even without bothering opponent much) can win you all rounds while still getting dominated round by round.
My example is when Davey Grant outpaced and outhit Daniel Marcos, still quite close fight, but I feel certain it was still clearly Davy Grant putting in the work winning all round. Maybe the round he got cut should be discussed, but how can one cut score someone more than 1 round? Marcos wasn't working it much after, it just continued to bleed. Got to admit I'm not a judge and I was cheering for Grant, but I still feel the one judge that gave it to Grant was right.
With how the rule seems to be interpreterad at times it gives loosing fighters a lottery ticket when a small cut bleeding that is almost as effective as a finish (for some judges that is).
Feels like Aspinall might just dominate the heavyweight division for a while 🙂
