Viktor Gyokeres has reached the point of no return at Sporting CP, having told the Lisbon giants that he will not return to them.
Gyokeres finds himself chased by a string of major clubs, with Arsenal and Manchester United leading the charge from the Premier League.
Arsenal are thought to be making “significant” progress towards a deal, but with Mikel Arteta’s side hesitating over whether to pick Gyokeres or RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko, the whole transfer seems to have ground to a standstill.
And this is a scenario that does not concern Sporting, who claim that they are content with this scenario.
What did Sporting say?
Frederico Varandas finds himself in the eye of the storm, with the Sporting president having once again hit out at the player’s agent.
Speaking to the media about Gyokeres, he said in quotes relayed by A Bola: “Given our expectations for Viktor’s value, I believe he might leave – unless he has the worst agent in the world. Which I find hard to believe, because he’s one of the best footballers in the world.
“I’m not going to say what amount we’re asking. That was conveyed to his agent. But I can guarantee that Viktor will not leave for €60+€10 million. Viktor already knows this.
Either a club respects Viktor’s fair market value and he fulfils his dream… or that club doesn’t want Viktor, and Viktor, with three years left on his contract, stays at Sporting,
– Frederico Varandas, Sporting president
“There are only two scenarios: either a club respects Viktor’s fair market value and he fulfils his dream – and from that moment we’re ready to move for our targets – or that club doesn’t want Viktor, and Viktor, with three years left on his contract, stays at Sporting, and we’ll be very happy.”
These comments have prompted Gyokeres’ camp to threaten to come out publicly to give their side of the story, while the 27-year-old has told Varandas that he is “tired” of hearing the president’s view on his transfer.
They have previously claimed Sporting promised that a deal could be struck for this €60m+€10m formula. Arsenal have already had a bid at that level rejected.
Has Gyokeres split with Ines Aguiar?
Gyokeres’ relationship with Sporting is not the only one in his life that appears to be under strain.
Having dated Ines Aguiar for several months, it seems that his relationship actress may have ended, with speculation rife in the tabloid press.
According to The Daily Mail, Gyokeres has been holidaying in Mykonos, Greece. Record, meanwhile, claims that Aguiar is on the Spanish island of Formentera, fuelling claims that the pair have separated.
