Watch Man Utd star Harry Maguire STAMP on Armando Broja but ESCAPE conceding penalty after controversial VAR check

HARRY MAGUIRE might be thinking he got away with one in the Old Trafford dressing room after escaping unpunished for STAMPING on Armando Broja.

The Southampton striker was clumsily bundled over by Manchester United skipper Maguire in the box, before the defender’s studs made contact with Broja’s leg.

Inevitably VAR checked the incident, but stuck with referee Stuart Attwell’s on-field decision that no offence was committed.

Maguire was lucky that was the case as it would have given the visitors a penalty with just two minutes left in the match.

In the end United escaped with a point after another impressive performance by Southampton.

But fans were left in disbelief that neither the push or the stamp by Maguire resulted in a spot-kick for the Saints.

One reacted: “Maguire pushes Broja over then stamps on him… no penalty.”

Another added: “How did they not give a penalty to the Saints? A push and stamp from Maguire.”

And a third said: “Surely a penalty on Broja?! Harry Maguire petulantly pushes him to the ground and stamps on Armando after Broja spins him.”

It was the culmination of an entertaining game at Old Trafford which started with Cristiano Ronaldo failing to score an OPEN GOAL.

Ronaldo has now gone six games without scoring, his worst run in front of goal since 2010.

Jadon Sancho did give United the lead soon after Ronaldo fluffed his lines, but the Saints hit back in the second half through Che Adams.

And they would have had the chance to win it had Maguire been penalised for either the barge or the stamp.

Back-to-back 1-1 draws leave United fifth in the Premier League – level on points with fourth-placed West Ham.

But they’re only a point ahead of Arsenal, and four ahead of Tottenham, with both teams having games in hand over the Red Devils.
