Man United legend Wayne Rooney caused Jamie Carragher to burst into laughter with his blunt response to being asked about Sergio Aguero’s title winning goal for Manchester City back in 2012.
Aguero delivered one of the Premier League’s most iconic moments on the final day of the 2011-12 season, helping City claim the title in the most dramatic of circumstances.
Roberto Mancini’s men scored twice in stoppage time to complete a comeback from 2-1 down to win 3-2 and pip rivals Man United to top spot on goal difference.
The game is remembered for Aguero’s last-gasp winner, with the Argentine smashing the ball past QPR goalkeeper Paddy Kenny to send the Etihad crowd into raptures.
Rooney had scored in Man United’s final day win over Sunderland, but the Red Devils were left helpless on the pitch as news of Man City’s late winner came through.
The former Man United striker, appearing on The Overlap Fan Debate, was asked by one Man City supporter about Aguero’s title-winning goal.

‘What about 2012, Wayne, was that a good one? Aguero goal mate,’ the fan said.
Rooney initially responded with a deadpan expression and offered no answer, prompting laughter from fans and Liverpool legend Carragher.
‘Obviously that was a tough one that,’ Rooney then said.
He then added: ‘But again didn’t Paddy Kenny turn the ball in, two goals, QPR knew they were safe and City get it to 2-2, then they just boot the ball back to them.
‘They had (Djibril) Cisse on the pitch, Joey Barton got sent off for acting stupid. Who else was it, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Nedum Onuoha diving about.’
Carragher joked in response: ‘So, you’ve got over it?’, prompting Rooney to reply ‘That should have been looked into.’
His reply prompted Carragher to laugh and then add: ‘It’s not just 115 now it’s 116. That’s the headline, “Wayne Rooney wants Manchester City looked into for the QPR game”.’

Carragher’s quip comes with Man City awaiting the outcome of a legal case with the Premier League.
The Premier League brought 130 charges, initially 115, against the club for alleged breaches of financial rules.
It is not the first time Rooney has commented on Aguero’s title winning goal, with the former Man United star in 2022 labelling the moments leading up to the goal as being ‘strange’.
