West Ham United have confirmed that David Moyes will remain in charge of the club despite their 4-0 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday. The Hammers are currently in a relegation battle and are just one point above the drop zone.
The club released a statement on Sunday morning, saying: “David Moyes’ position as West Ham United manager is not under consideration. The club has full confidence in David and his coaching staff to lead the team through the final nine Premier League matches of the season.”
The statement comes after a difficult week for Moyes, who has been under increasing pressure following a run of poor results. West Ham have won just one of their last seven Premier League matches and have been in the relegation zone for much of the season.
The club’s owners, David Sullivan and David Gold, have been vocal in their support of Moyes and have backed him to turn things around. They have also been quick to point out that the team’s current position is not solely down to the manager, but also due to a number of injuries to key players.
The club’s statement also said: “The Board understand that supporters are unhappy with the team’s current performances and results and we share their frustration. However, we believe David is the right man to lead West Ham United forward and we will continue to back him and his team.”
Moyes has been in charge of West Ham since November 2017 and has overseen a number of changes at the club, including the appointment of a new director of football and the signing of a number of high-profile players.
The club’s statement concluded: “We are confident that with the continued support of everyone at the club, and the backing of our passionate supporters, David and his team will be able to get the results we all want to see.”
West Ham’s next match is against Leicester City on Sunday and the club will be hoping to get back to winning ways and move further away from the relegation zone. Moyes will be hoping to prove his doubters wrong and show that he is the right man to lead the club forward.
