West Ham get nightmare Europa Conference League play-off qualifier with long trip to Denmark or Faroe Islands

WEST HAM could face a nightmare journey to the Faroe Islands in the Europa Conference League play-off.

The Hammers were pitted against B37 Torshavn or Danish side Viborg FF in a baffling draw to book their spot in the group stages.

The home match at the London Stadium will take place on August 18 before a trip to either Denmark or the Faroe Islands on August 25.

West Ham finished seventh in the Premier League last season.

And with Liverpool securing both domestic cups, that was good enough to secure a place back in qualifying for the European competition.

The Irons enjoyed a stunning run to the Europa League semi-finals, losing to eventual winners Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Bundesliga side beat Rangers on penalty in the final to qualify for the Champions League.

Roma are the inaugural Europa Conference League champions.

Jose Mourinho’s side saw off Vitesse, Bodo/Glimt, Leicester and then Feyenoord in the first edition of the tournament last season.

The Conference League winners are handed a place in the Europa League for the following year.
