Former India National Cricket Team off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has expressed regret at the infamous IPL 2008 slapgate incident involving former India National Cricket Team pacer S Sreesanth.

In the Indian Premier League 2008, which was the inaugural edition of the cash-rich league, Harbhajan Singh, who was then the skipper of Mumbai Indians, slapped Indian pacer S Sreesanth, who was then part of the Kings XI Punjab (Now Punjab Kings), after the game between the teams at the IS Bindra, Punjab Cricket Association (PCA). The Indian pacer Sreesanth was crying after the incident and he was caught by the TV cameras before the presentation ceremony.

In a video shared by Glance screen on Twitter, Harbhajan recalled the incident. He asserted:

“What happened was wrong, it was wrong from my side. I made a mistake. My teammate and I had to face embarrassment. A real man is someone who admits his mistake. If I have to correct one mistake that I made, it was probably that mistake I had with Sreesanth. It should not have happened. If I think about it, I feel there was no need.

Former India off-spinner further said that he can’t change what has already happened and admitted that he made a big mistake.

“When you are so involved in a game and so emotionally attached, you sometimes don’t realize how you react. Nobody is perfect. We all learn. The best thing is you apologise to the other person with a pure heart, you have done your heart. I cannot really change what happened but all I can say it was my mistake and everyone makes mistakes,” said Harbhajan in a video shared by Glance screen on Twitter.

Notably, Harbhajan was handed over a ban by the governing body after he was found guilty. Harbhajan was banned for the remaining matches of the tournament and he was also prohibited from collecting his salary.

Along with the ban in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the off-spinner was banned for five One Day International (ODI) games after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) launched a separate investigation and found him guilty.
