Ace Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was at his wittiest best when asked about a query related to Virat Kohli and said that he would need to walk in the shoes of India coach Rahul Dravid to answer that particular question.
The Indian team played its first practice match in Perth, Australia against the Western Australia team to kick-start their T20 World Cup 2022 preparation down under as the tournament will begin from October 16 onwards. India had set up base in WACA ground in Perth to get into game mode and has been practicing since reaching Australia on October 7.
India won their first practice match against WA, as they managed to defend a small total of 159 with Arshdeep Singh taking 3/9 and Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal taking 2 wickets each. Earlier Suryakumar Yadav hit 52 and thanks to contributions from Hardik Pandya and Deepak Hooda, took India to 158/6 in 20 overs.
Your Guess Is As Good As Mine: Ravichandran Ashwin On Whether Virat Kohli Will Play In Practices Matches Or Not
Interestingly, ace India batter Virat Kohli skipped this match and after the encounter, Ravichandran Ashwin was asked whether the former India captain would play or miss both practice games. Given the quick wit, Ashwin said that he did not have the answer and would love to be in head coach Rahul Dravid’s shoes at the moment.
“I wish I could walk into Rahul Dravid’s shoes one day and answer that question, but as of now, your guess is as good as mine,” Ashwin told reporters after the match.
Meanwhile, India is slated to play one more practice game against Western Australia on October 13. Then the Men in Blue will clash with Australia on October 17 and New Zealand on October 19 in official ICC T20 World Cup 2022 warmup matches.
India’s first match in the tournament will be against Pakistan on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
