Former France international Adil Rami has launched a scathing tirade against Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal for his behaviour off the pitch.
The 18-year-old recently signed a bumper new contract with the Blaugrana after establishing himself as one of the world’s best players despite his tender years.
Yamal has been handed Barcelona’s famous No.10 shirt and is well on his way to superstardom in football and beyond. However, the youngster has drawn criticism for some of his antics away from the pitch.
Yamal recently staged a lavish birthday party to celebrate turning 18, which allegedly included hiring people with dwarfism as performers. This saw the teenager face intense media scrutiny.
When pressed on the matter, Yamal brushed it off as simply ‘enjoying life.’ However, his behaviour is increasingly being put under the microscope, which is to be expected given his standing in the game.
Rami launches bizarre tirade
In terms of the vitriol Yamal has received, nothing comes close to the bizarre tirade former France international Adil Rami has now launched against the wonderkid.
Speaking on Twitch, the 2018 World Cup winner absolutely hammered Yamal for his behaviour. “Football-wise, nothing to say. He’s a cracking talent. He’ll win Ballons d’Or, Champions Leagues, everything,” Rami prefaced his expletive-laden rant.
“But on a human level – f*** your mother. I don’t care about Barça fans or Lamine Yamal fans. I’ve had enough. The way he shook Cristiano Ronaldo’s hand pissed me off. That’s where it started.
“Then he made videos talking about him – I didn’t like that. Then I saw his whole ‘pants down’ [celebration] thing… That whole business of pulling your shorts down – that comes from prison culture in the US and Mexico, and it was done by people who wanted to get f****.
“There are things that raise red flags. He throws parties, and people are already talking about his parties. Wait a bit, you f***! He shows up, takes the No. 10 shirt, and starts rocking all this bling with big diamonds… He thinks he’s American. It’s f****** annoying.”
Rami himself is no stranger to controversy. In 2019, US film star Pamela Anderson accused him of infidelity and domestic abuse, claims Rami vehemently denied. The 39-year-old has been without a club since 2023 and has been regular on French TV in recent years.
