Sheffield are pushing to sign Villarreal striker Ben Brereton-Diaz on loan and goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel from Anderlecht.
Chile international Brereton-Diaz, 24, moved to La Liga last summer after leaving Blackburn as a free agent but has struggled to make an impact.
His arrival could see Sheffield United forward Benie Traore move on loan to Nantes.
The French side are considering curtailing the loan of Arsenal’s Brazilian winger Marquinhos who is keen to play in the CONMEBOL pre-Olympic tournament later this month.
The Blades also hope to prise Schmeichel, 37, away as he looks for a return to the Premier League.

The goalkeeper left England to join Nice during August 2022, after he had failed to agree a deal to extend his £120,000-per-week contract at Leicester City.
It would mark the end of his 11-year stay at the football club, with Schmeichel playing for just a single season with Nice before joining Anderlecht in September, 2023.
His contract with Anderlecht will expire in the Summer, with the goalkeeper having kept two clean sheets in 13 appearances for Anderlecht.

Brereton-Diaz could also make his return to the United Kingdom after he left Blackburn last summer.
The forward has made 19 appearances across all competitions for Villarreal since joining but has failed to get on the score-sheet, having also made just two starts in the Spanish top-flight this season.
