Manchester United could be ready to sell Mateo Meji amid interest from Sevilla, according to Spanish media.
The Red Devils youngster has not had an easy time of it since arriving in Manchester. Robbed of several years of his nascent career by a persistent ankle problem, Mejia is only now fulfilling the potential that prompted Man Utd to snap him up in 2019.
The Spain-born Colombia international has been in good form for the Red Devils in Premier League 2, notching three goals and five assists in nine outings so far this season. This form has attracted the attention of foreign clubs, especially as the 20-year-old’s contract is up at the end of the season.
Man Utd are said to be keen to hand him a new deal, but they know that the youngster will likely want to play first-team football in the not-too-distant future. At this point, despite his good form, he appears to be some way away from Erik ten Hag’s squad, so a January departure may be on the cards.
Sevilla keen on Mejia
According to Relevo, LaLiga giants Sevilla are one of multiple clubs interested in signing the youngster. Several Belgian and Dutch sides are also keen to snap up the 20-year-old.
The Spanish outlet asserts that Man Utd would not be opposed to a potential sale. It will all depend on the structure of the deal. At the right price and if the offer includes a sell-on percentage, the Premier League side would be willing to sanction Mejia’s departure.
Sevilla are said to be the best-placed side to acquire the youngster. The reigning Europa League champions, riven by turmoil, are currently languishing just two spots above the relegation zone, having won only three league games all season.
